Marine radar can detect birds by picking up the reflections of radar waves off of the birds' bodies. Radar works by emitting radio waves and detecting the reflections of those waves off of objects in the environment. The radar system measures the time it takes for the waves to travel to the object and bounce back, and it uses this information to calculate the distance and location of the object.

When a radar beam hits a bird, the reflection off of the bird's body is stronger than the reflections off of the surrounding water or land. The radar system is able to distinguish the reflection off of the bird from the background reflections and display it as a separate target on the radar display.

Marine radar systems typically have multiple settings that can be used to adjust the sensitivity and range of the radar. By adjusting the settings, it is possible to fine-tune the radar's ability to detect birds and other objects.

Overall, marine radar is a powerful tool for detecting birds and other objects on the water, and it can be an important aid for navigation and safety.
